How long is an RPL valid?

In Australia, a Recreational Pilot License (RPL) is valid for an indefinite period, as long as the license holder maintains their skills and continues to meet the requirements set by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

However, to maintain the privileges of the RPL, the license holder must comply with certain conditions such as:

  1. Flying at least once every 90 days to maintain currency.
  2. Undertaking flight reviews and competency checks with a flight instructor at specified intervals.
  3. Maintaining a current medical certificate appropriate for the license.

If the license holder fails to comply with the requirements, their license may be suspended or canceled. It’s important to note that the RPL is not a commercial license, and the flying privileges are limited compared to a Private Pilot License (PPL) or Commercial Pilot License (CPL). Therefore, it’s recommended that individuals seeking to pursue a career in aviation consider obtaining a higher level of certification such as a PPL or CPL.
